Thanks to Christine and Kevin who were staying at Number 19 in June this year for sending me a link for some fantastic pictures and video of the Sea Eagles below the cottage.

My own camera skills are terrible but i have been informed that there are fantastic pictures posted on Flickr by an obviously very talented photographer (EWin1) who was holidaying in Waternish this month. I have had a look at them and they include brilliant shots of the landscape and the wildlife we are blessed with in Waternish and North Skye. Well worth looking at, address below.

Also worth a look is a video on YouTube of some kayakers getting some very exciting close up action with some minke whales off Waternish Point

We were very fortunate last week to have a large pod of dolphins in Loch Snizort, being in an elevated position overlooking the loch our guests Denise and Glenn Dallender had a great view of them leaping and playing in the sea. Later in the week they were lucky enough to see minke whales passing below the house, fantastic....

Lots of eagle activity over June and July with the adults nesting and hunting. All our guests got loads of fantastic pictures and were amazed to see such majestic birds close up. Thanks to Dave and Jackie Percivall for this picture taken at the bottom of our croft

These last few weeks have been wonderful for admiring the vast amount of birdlife in Geary again. Not only as the Sea Eagles now have a chick so can both be seen out hunting on good days but we also had a tree filled with Siskins next door chattering away into the dusk.

There had been reported hearings of the Corncrake over the last few weeks which have now materialised into no less than 3 Corncrakes in Geary throughout the various crofts, I'm quite sure we had one on ours as it could be heard calling through the night along with the Tawny Owls.

And if the birdlife wasn't enough we saw a Minky Whale pass by last Sunday, the weather was gorgeous and the sea was flat calm as it went by heading out to Waternish Head.

Today started as a perfect day to be indoors with the log burner on and a nice hot drink. If it wasn't raining it was hailstoning. It cleared up around lunchtime to a lovely tranquil day though. No eagles but we had birds of the smaller garden variety. Along with our resident "Waggy" the Wagtail we also had Chaffinches and beautiful little Goldfinches brightening up the garden. As I brought in the washing there was an entire tree alive with birdsong and the sea was flat calm. Just goes to show that you never just get one season in a day on Skye.

The view from the sitting room window is stunning today. There is snow on the hills above Uig, the sun is shining brightly but it's windy and cold enough to get the winter woolies back out.

The Eagles have been out twice below the house today. Didn't get to the binoculars in time to identify the first Eagle at 10:30am but there was no doubt that our 1pm visitor was an impressive Sea Eagle, as it turned the sun reflected of it and revealed a golden body with a huge white tail. It was followed by a pair of smaller birds, possibly buzzards trying to chase it away, before it descended into the cover of the cliffs below the house. Must remember to get out the camera and long lens next time instead of just watching in amazement.
