| Northern Lights (Aurora borealis) and Dark Skies
During winter months in Waternish and Skye locals and visitors are amazed by the wonders of the Northern Lights. This is a natural wonder you will never forget and in Scotland there are only 12 officially recognised locations for star gazing, 9 of these are on Skye and 3 of these are based in Waternish, 1 less than a mile from Number 19.
Of course apart from the summer months when the nights are very short Skye is a wonderful place for star gazing, on a crisp winters evening it is breathtaking to sit out on the patio of Number 19 appreciating the magnificence of billions of stars spread like a canopy over the night sky. The moon rises directly in front of Number 19 and its glow reflecting off Loch Snizort as it travels and rises though the sky towards Portree can be spellbinding.
